Online shopping… friend or foe?

I’m not going to lie, I love me some online shopping! Perhaps too much at times. Don’t get me wrong, I’m actually a mall girl too, but I just love seeing whats new as soon as possible! Maybe I’m just part of the instant gratification era, but I’m also sensible enough to know that it’s not always the best course of action.

Take this dress from LOFT for example. Gorgeous isn’t it? It was love at first sight for me. I was posting it on Instagram, showing it to friends, and literally stalking my email just waiting for a sale. Why a sale? Well, I did just graduate college. Anyway, I had it all planned out. My new black and white dress, normal size, and we’d live happily ever after! Finally a sale roles around that happens to be both online and instore. Call the instant gratification again, but I had to check it out in stores.

To my surprise the dress wasn’t actually black and white. Rather, it was a blueish gray, and almost navy black. No matter! It was still beautiful!

So, I grabbed my normal size, and headed to the fitting room to get more aquatinted with my new love. To my surprise my normal size was much too big. At least a full size too big. So, I sized down, and came out with a different color than intended, but I’m still a very very happy camper!

What I really love about this dress is the beautiful pleating right on the hips. It’s so flattering and such a sweet, feminine detail.

So, even though I love online shopping, buying this dress online wasn’t the right choice for me here. I would have bought the wrong size, and it would have just set me back from being united with this lovely little number.

So, what do you think? Online shopping… friend or foe?

So pretty! I love the colors! I am not big on online shopping because I am always too scared somthing isnt going to fit or look different when I get it! And.. I just love the mall too much! :)

Thanks so much Shannon!! I totally agree. Though it’s useful to be able to scope things out online, actually going to the mall and trying it on if the way to go!

Such a great dress! And I think online shopping is a friend! Until I spend too much money… 😉

Thank you! I’m pretty in smitten with it :)

  • Mica

    What a beautiful dress! :)

I really like online shopping at sale time, as the sizes and ranges are always better than in store. But I agree it needs to have a good return policy in case the sizes are off!

Thanks Mica :) Totally, a return policy could really make or break an online shopping purchase for me!

      Have a great monday :)

this dress is lovely! i’ve had the same experience with certain pieces, so if i’m not familiar with the brand/fitting, i try not to purchase online. sometimes it’s nice to feel the fabric and see how things look in person too!!

    • Michelle @ Oats and Bows

Thank you Gabrille :) I agree that being able to feel the fabric is huge! One of my favorite parts of this dress is that it’s so light and airy, and I never would have known that if I hadn’t tried it on first! Have a great monday :)

Well that dress is definitely a keeper! But I totally feel ya with the back and forth feelings about online shopping vs. real life. If I can see it in person, then I’ll head to the store. I just want to know it fits and no dealing with returns or alterations. But I know I will still browse A LOT online because it’s fun!

I agree, Adri! It really is just a lot of fun to browse :) Especially after I see something cute on a blog! Thanks for stopping by!!

That dress is gorgeous! I love online shopping! Even though I always get worried something won’t fit or the colors won’t be what I was hoping I love how many more things you can find online compared to in store. Plus with online shopping I can find stores we don’t have around here which always leads to fun new things! :)
